What a factory needs for a dress
Bust, waist and hip
Give each one and where it is measured. The distance from shoulder to waist decides where the waist seam falls.
Length and hem sweep
Length from the high point shoulder, and the hem sweep, which sets how much the skirt flares.
Closure
Invisible zip length and position, or buttons, or a pull-on style with stretch.
Lining and facings
Fully lined, half lined or unlined; facings or binding at neck and armholes, and the fusing used.
Fabric behaviour
Viscose and crepe can grow or shrink; ask for measurements after washing and for the hanging time before hemming.

Common mistakes
- No waist position, so the waist seam sits too high or too low.
- Hem sweep not given, so the flare changes from sample to sample.
- Zip length that doesn't leave room to step into the dress.
