What a factory needs for a skirt

Waist and hip

Waist at the top of the waistband and hip 18 cm below it. Say whether the waist sits high or on the hip.

Length and sweep

Length at centre back including the waistband, and the hem sweep for the flare.

Waistband and closure

Waistband height and fusing, zip length and a hook and bar or button.

Vent or slit

For a straight or pencil skirt, add a back vent or slit length so the wearer can walk.

Common mistakes

  • Waist given without saying where it is measured.
  • No vent on a narrow skirt, so it can't be walked in.

Questions

Can I use it for a pencil or pleated skirt?
Yes. Reduce the hem sweep for a pencil skirt and add a vent, or describe the pleats in construction and add a pleat depth measurement.
